On August 6, 1945 at 8:16 (local time) Little Boy, the first atomic bomb to be used in a military conflict, exploded over Hiroshima, which until then had not been touched by American bombing. The bomb detonated at an altitude of 576 meters with an output of 12,500 tons of TNT. Little Boy caused about 130,000 deaths and 177 thousand people dead and displaced in subsequent years because of radiation. In 2002, the hibakusha (those affected by nuclear radiation fallout), despite the 57 years, was 285,000.
